GOAT (Great Outdoor Adventure Trips)

    ( December 8, 2011 )
  1. On Saturday, October 15th, we hosted our 3rd annual Cornhole Tournament at Cleveland Park. The proceeds from our event will help provide funding for our summer programs, which are coming up quickly! Thirty teams faced off against each other this year in the double-elimination tournament, hoping to win awesome prizes and of course, bragging rights. Prizes were provided by our awesome friends at Mountain Khakis, Smith, and Hydroflask. We also gave away free passes for the Mountain Goat and a cornhole set. After a few hours of intense face offs, it came down to the Carpenters, last year’s runners up, and Steve and Rebecca Yates, who came all the way from Pennsylvania for our tournament and were our third place finishers last years. (We take our cornhole seriously here at GOAT). In the end, the Carpenters won the tournament and bragging rights for a year. Thanks to everyone who came out! We had so much fun and we can’t wait to see how God uses your generosity to reach students in Greenville this summer.

  3. 2 Ways to support GOAT this weekend!

So, if you’re sitting around thinking, “I need something crazy cool to do this weekend!” never fear, we have options for you. Check out below two events happening in Greenville this weekend to benefit GOAT and send more kids on trips with us!

The 3rd Annual GOAT Cornhole Classic

Come out to Cleveland Park this weekend for a double-elimination style cornhole tournament and a tasty lunch! We can promise a good time and cool prizes from the likes of Mountain Khakis, Smith Sunglasses, Starbucks, Hydroflask, and the Mountain Goat Climbing Gym. $59 for a team.

    Run for Hungry Children 5k

On Saturday, the annual Run for Hungry Children 5k is being run at Furman University. Along with the Frazee center, GOAT was chosen as a beneficiary organization. Come on out and enjoy the afternoon. $20 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12

  5. The App State Cornhole Challenge

Something really cool happened last week. For the first time ever, a group of people not at all associated with GOAT decided they loved GOAT and wanted to do a fundraiser on their own. How cool is that? Way cool, that’s how cool.

A group of students at App State in Boone, NC played off our yearly Cornhole Classic in Greenville and created the event on their own for their leadership class. They set up in the middle of campus, and for $2 participants got 3 chances to toss beanbags at the cornhole boards. Prizes from local businesses, Chic-fil-a, and GOAT stuff were awarded depending on how many bags were made.

It was a great event and raised money for scholarships while getting the word out about GOAT to tons of college kids (can you say potential interns??) but the coolest part was to see an independent group act on their own and show a passion and burden for GOAT in a practical way - while allowing us to focus on what we’re good at and what we’re called to do.

Wanna do the same? We would love to have some publicity/fundraising events done for GOAT and can provide materials and prizes to help. Holla at us! info@goattrips.org

  7. The 2nd Annual Cornhole Classic

If you missed it (we’re sorry) a few weeks ago we hosted the Second Annual Cornhole Classic in Cleveland Park in beautiful downtown Greenville, SC to raise some scholarship money to send kids on sweet trips with GOAT.

We had 25 teams of two battle it to the (almost) death with over 80 people in attendance total. The prize: Glory and fame. Well, and cool prizes. Thanks a million to everybody who made it happen and donated prizes, food and supplies:

Mountain Khakis for free pants and coozies

Eagles Nest Outfitters for free hammocks

Citgo Corner Mart for free gas cards and drinks

Appalachian Rivers for free rafting trips

Kirk Shockley’s BBQ Truck (we wish the truck existed) for delicious BBQ

Thanks to y’all and everyone in attendance, we were able to raise over $1,800 for our summer programs. So pat yourself on the back, and think of the smile and memory you helped create.

And now, without further delay, your (surprisingly geographically diverse) podium:

1st Place - GATOR NATION - Alpharetta, GA

2nd Place - WHAT’S WRONG WITH MISE? - Blythewood, SC

3rd Place - TEAM YATES - Scotland, PA

And in the best dressed (participant voted) category:

1st Place - REVENGE OF THE KHAKI SUIT - Greenville, SC

2nd Place - TEAM FANNY PACK - Greenville, SC

3rd Place - THE JEAN DREAM TEAM - Clemson, SC

We hope you’ll all join us again next year, and thanks again for your continued support of GOAT. Y’all are all the bomb.

    Who’s coming next year?

  13. Put it on your calendars! October 3rd is the first ever Goat Cornhole Classic Fundraiser. Teams are $50 each and you get fed and a sweet t-shirt from the event. We’re raising money for our summer programs, so each team also sends one participant on a trip for free. Can’t beat that. All the details are at the website, so check it – Cornhole Classic.

We also put together an awesome little promo video for it while Miley was in the office last week.
